Handling the death of a loved one can be a traumatic time for anyone, and the last thing on someone's mind when dealing with situations like suicides, unattended deaths, or murders is figuring out how to budget for cleaning up the mess. At ServiceMaster BioClean, our goal is to make pricing easy and transparent on you and your insurance carrier. We provided a breakdown of the evaluation process, the factors that influence pricing, and how we work with insurance companies to reduce the financial burden on our customers.

How Biohazard Cleaning is Priced

Our experienced team assesses the site to identify the extent of the contamination, the type of biohazard, and any structural damage or complications. This evaluation helps us develop a customized plan and provide a transparent estimate.

Scope and Size

The size of the affected area plays a significant role in determining the cost. We use a square footage model to calculate the cost based on the number of rooms affected and the overall size of the contaminated area. The larger the mess is, the higher the cost of the job will be.

Structural Damage

If the biohazard has caused structural damage to the property, including biological material absorbing into the floorboards, additional repairs and restoration may be required, affecting the overall price.

How Long the Site Was Left Unattended

The longer a biohazard site remains unattended, the more the decomposition process takes place. This potentially means more pathogens, odors, and bacteria have more time to spread throughout the site, and requires more extensive cleaning to finish the job.

Complications

Unique challenges, such as difficult access to the affected area or the presence of hazardous materials, can influence the cost.

Factors Affecting How Each Bioremediation Service Costs

Each service that ServiceMaster BioClean offers has different factors that can determine the cost of a job.

Decomposition Cleanup and Removal

This is the removal of biohazardous materials like blood and bodily fluids left after a death. The longer the site is left unattended, the more time biohazard contaminants are able to spread. This would require more extensive cleaning, possible demolition and deconstruction, material replacement, and advanced deodorization techniques, which drives up the cost.

Crime Scene Cleanup:

Crime scene cleanup entails safely removing and decontaminating hazardous materials from homicide or traumatic event scenes. The job can cost more if the scene is large, involves multiple rooms, or has structural damage like bullet holes, necessitating extra time, resources, and material disposal. Other cost-increasing factors include remote locations, complex access issues, or the need for additional safety measures and compliance with law enforcement officials.

Unattended Death Cleanup:

Unattended death cleanup involves identifying and removing biohazardous contaminants from sites where a death went undiscovered. Costs can rise if the site was unattended for a long time, leading to wider contamination, deeper material penetration, or severe odor issues, which require advanced techniques and more labor.

Suicide Cleanup:

Suicide site cleaning includes removing blood and other biohazards from the location of a suicide and using disinfection techniques to restore the area to a safe state. The job may cost more if blood spatter or fluids have spread across multiple surfaces or rooms. This requires extensive cleanup, or if prolonged exposure causes structural damage or entrenched odors needing advanced deodorization.

Other services that can have fluctuating costs:

Hoarding Cleanup: Not all Biohazard’s involve death. ServiceMaster BioClean offers hoarding cleanup services, and the costs fluctuate drastically depending on the size of the cleanup job.

Mattress Removal: One of the smaller jobs we offer, some biohazard jobs take place only on the mattress at a site, and removing the mattress is all that is needed.

Human Waste Cleanup: We encounter human fecal matter on a regular basis, and like most of our biohazard jobs, the size and scope of the contamination will determine how much the job costs.

Animal Waste Removal: Animals are involved in accidents on a daily basis, and factors such as accessibility to the site and distance can change the price of the job.
